Harvey Elliott could be set for a shock exit from Anfield after RB Leipzig officially opened negotiations with Liverpool over a summer move.

According to Football Place and journalist Florian Plettenberg, Leipzig have made Elliott their top target to replace Xavi Simons — who is nearing a move to Chelsea — and are pushing to get a deal done before the end of the window.

Elliott, 22, is reportedly open to joining the Bundesliga side after holding direct talks with Leipzig manager Ole Werner and sporting director Marcel Schäfer. Several clubs, including West Ham, are monitoring the situation, but Leipzig are now clear frontrunners.

Why Harvey Elliott Is Ready to Leave Liverpool

Despite being a lifelong Liverpool supporter, Elliott is seeking regular first-team football after a frustrating season under Jürgen Klopp and, more recently, Arne Slot. He made just 18 Premier League appearances last term — most of them from the bench.

The arrival of Florian Wirtz this summer has further reduced Elliott’s opportunities. With the player slipping down the pecking order, a move abroad has become a realistic option.

“Harvey Elliott is very high on RB Leipzig’s shortlist… Leipzig are pushing now. Clubs in contact,” said journalist Florian Plettenberg. — Sky Sport Germany

The Financial Details: Liverpool Want €65m

Liverpool have reportedly set a €65 million asking price for Elliott, though they are willing to drop that to €55 million if a buy-back clause is included. Leipzig’s budget could hinge on the sales of Xavi Simons and Benjamin Šeško, who is heavily linked with Manchester United.

Elliott’s current market value is around €30m, meaning Leipzig would need to stretch to meet Liverpool’s demands.

Analyst Verdict: A Move That Could Reignite Elliott’s Career

At 22, Elliott still has time on his side — but staying on the fringes at Liverpool could stall his progress. Leipzig offer a clear project, regular football, and a system that suits technically gifted midfielders.

The lack of Champions League football may complicate the decision, but a starring role in Germany could propel Elliott back into the spotlight — and eventually back to Anfield via a buy-back clause.
