Feyenoord defender Givairo Read has admitted he feels ready to take the next step in his career as Roma continue to push for a deal, with Nottingham Forest still monitoring the situation.

The 20-year-old right-back has become one of the Eredivisie's most sought-after young defenders after an impressive breakthrough campaign, and his future could be decided in the coming days.

While Read insists he is focused on preparing for the new season, he acknowledged that the opportunity to move abroad is one he is prepared to consider.

Roma leading race for Feyenoord defender

Roma are currently in pole position to sign Read after submitting a €25 million offer to Feyenoord.

The Serie A club are reportedly keen to finalise the transfer quickly, with club representatives prepared to travel to Rotterdam in an effort to complete negotiations.

Nottingham Forest remain interested after seeing several lower bids rejected earlier this summer, but the Premier League side now appear to trail Roma in the race for the Dutch defender's signature.

Read focused despite transfer speculation

Speaking to Voetbal International, Read admitted the growing transfer interest is exciting but revealed he is deliberately being kept away from many of the ongoing discussions.

His representatives have limited the information they share with him so he can remain fully focused on football.

"I can't look into the future. I don't even think I know everything that's happening at the moment, and that's deliberate."

The defender added that his priority is to return fully fit and be in top condition for the new campaign, regardless of where he starts the season.

Ready for the next challenge

Although Read stressed he does not feel he has outgrown Feyenoord, he believes he is ready if the right opportunity presents itself.

"If the chance comes at a club that I like, then I'm ready. It's a feeling. I feel it."

He also acknowledged that opportunities to make a major transfer cannot always be guaranteed.

"You never know how many chances you get in life."

Despite that, Read made it clear he would have no issue remaining in Rotterdam if no agreement is reached this summer.

He insisted that staying at Feyenoord would simply shift his focus towards challenging for the Eredivisie title and earning a place in the Netherlands national team.

Key Points

  • Roma have submitted a €25 million offer for Givairo Read.

What's Next?

Roma are expected to continue negotiations with Feyenoord as they attempt to finalise a deal before Nottingham Forest return with another offer. Read's future could be resolved soon, but the defender has made it clear he is comfortable whether he begins the new season in Rotterdam or takes the next step in his career abroad.
