Feyenoord set €33m asking price as Givairo Read transfer stalls

Feyenoord are refusing to lower their valuation of Givairo Read, with the Eredivisie club demanding a fixed €33 million for the highly-rated full-back despite interest from across Europe.

According to ESPN Netherlands, technical director Devy Rigaux has adopted a firm stance during negotiations, leading both Nottingham Forest and AS Roma to cool their interest after failing to meet Feyenoord's demands.

The Rotterdam club have already turned down a package worth €29 million, consisting of €25 million upfront and €4 million in bonuses.

While Nottingham Forest remain admirers of the 20-year-old, the Premier League side have so far been unwilling to meet Feyenoord's asking price. Roma also explored a deal, but the Serie A club have now shifted their attention elsewhere after negotiations stalled.

The report suggests Rigaux is under little pressure to sell and would only consider a transfer if Feyenoord receive their full valuation.

Read is under contract until 2029, leaving Feyenoord in a strong negotiating position.

The club believe the Dutch defender's value will continue to rise and currently view him as a key part of their long-term plans. That has strengthened their resolve to resist offers below their valuation.

Despite speculation surrounding his future, sources close to the player insist Read has remained fully professional throughout the transfer window.

Described as "a gentleman", the defender has shown no intention of forcing a move and is expected to feature against Sparta this weekend if selected.

Unless a club meets Feyenoord's €33 million valuation, Read looks increasingly likely to remain in Rotterdam beyond the summer transfer window. Nottingham Forest could yet return with an improved proposal, but Feyenoord's stance suggests they are comfortable keeping one of their most valuable young players.
