Fulham strengthened their push for European football with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Tottenham, securing back-to-back home victories against Spurs for the first time in 19 years. Goals from Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon in the final 15 minutes sealed the victory in what had been a dull London derby.
The first half was uneventful, with Fulham’s Timothy Castagne and Tottenham’s Ben Davies the only players to register shots on target. As the second half unfolded, Spurs looked the more likely to score, but Dominic Solanke squandered three chances, including one at an open goal from just five yards out.
However, it was Fulham who broke the deadlock in the 75th minute. Substitute Muniz, who had scored twice in last season’s 3-0 win over Spurs, finished coolly after a well-worked move. Tottenham, desperate for an equalizer, were caught out in the 89th minute when former Spurs player Sessegnon pounced on a long ball, holding off Ben Davies to score Fulham's second.
The victory lifts Fulham to eighth in the Premier League, just four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, while Tottenham remains in 13th. Marco Silva, celebrating his 200th Premier League game as a manager, would have been pleased with his team’s resilience and sharpness in the final stages.
This win marks Fulham’s first consecutive home league wins against Spurs since the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons under Chris Coleman. With just nine games left, Fulham remain firmly in the hunt for a European place, a significant achievement for the club as they aim to surpass their best-ever Premier League finish of seventh place in 2008-09.
With Fulham’s impressive victory over Tottenham, they’re now just four points behind fourth place. Do you think they can secure a European spot this season?
