Jota Silva is pushing for a move to Sporting, but Nottingham Forest remain firm on a permanent transfer rather than a loan.

Nottingham Forest winger Jota Silva is growing increasingly frustrated as his move to Sporting CP hangs in the balance. The 26-year-old, who has already rejected offers from Leeds United and a Brazilian club, is determined to reunite with former Vitória de Guimarães boss Rui Borges in Lisbon.

Portuguese outlet Correio da Manhã reports that Sporting are pushing for a loan deal with a €10m purchase option, while Forest — under owner Evangelos Marinakis — are insisting on a straight sale close to €10m. This fundamental disagreement has left talks at an impasse.

Sporting’s Approach vs Forest’s Stance

Borges is said to be “pressurising and convincing” Sporting president Frederico Varandas to get the deal done. Meanwhile, O Jogo and Record confirm that the Lisbon club are unwilling to meet Forest’s demand for an outright sale.

Forest, however, have no intention of letting Silva leave temporarily, knowing he has no role in Nuno Espírito Santo’s plans. One possible compromise could involve Sporting buying 50% of Silva’s rights — a structure that appeals to Forest but reportedly does not satisfy Sporting’s board.

“The impasse is causing some concern for the player, who wants his future resolved quickly.” — Correio da Manhã

Analyst Verdict

From a tactical standpoint, Silva’s pace and direct play would fit seamlessly into Sporting’s wide structure. However, Forest’s hardline stance on a permanent sale is also understandable — loans with options can drag uncertainty into future windows. Unless Sporting shift towards a purchase commitment, this saga risks dragging to deadline day.

Key Insights

  • Jota Silva has rejected Leeds and a Brazilian club to push for Sporting.
  • Forest want €10m sale; Sporting want a loan with option to buy.
  • Marinakis open to 50% rights sale — but Sporting reluctant.
  • Player becoming frustrated as time runs out.

What’s Next

Negotiations are set to continue this week. Sporting must decide whether to increase their financial commitment or risk missing out on their top wide target. Forest, meanwhile, hold firm — but the closer we get to deadline day, the more pressure both sides will face.

Should Sporting pay more now to secure Silva — or hold firm and gamble on Forest lowering demands?
