Negotiations between Nottingham Forest and Sporting CP over Jota Silva will resume next week, with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis insisting on a permanent deal.

Sporting CP’s pursuit of Jota Silva has hit a familiar roadblock — the structure of the deal. The Portuguese giants have made it clear from the start they want the winger on loan with an option to buy, but Nottingham Forest have no interest in a temporary exit.

According to A Bola, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is pushing for an outright sale this summer and has now set an asking price in the €6–8 million range. That figure is seen as within Sporting’s reach, but the Lisbon club are still weighing up whether to commit to a permanent transfer.

Player Keen on Sporting Move

Jota Silva, 26, made the switch from Vitória de Guimarães to Nottingham Forest last season for around €7m, but has struggled to establish himself in the Premier League under Nuno Espírito Santo. The Portuguese international is said to be eager to reunite with Sporting head coach Rui Borges, who has identified him as a priority target to strengthen the flanks.

“Jota Silva is a player we value highly, but the terms have to be right for both sides,” a Sporting source told A Bola. — A Bola

Analyst Verdict

Forest’s €6–8m price tag for Jota Silva is surprisingly reasonable for a 26-year-old international who still has his prime years ahead of him. Sporting’s hesitation is understandable given their preference for risk-free deals, but this is a rare opportunity to secure a player already adapted to Portuguese football and motivated to return home.

If Sporting fail to act, other clubs — particularly in La Liga or Ligue 1 — could quickly move in at that fee.

Key Insights

  • Nottingham Forest want a permanent sale, not a loan
  • Asking price set at €6–8m, lower than last summer’s fee
  • Jota Silva keen to reunite with Sporting coach Rui Borges
  • Sporting still prioritising a loan with option to buy
  • Negotiations to resume next week

What’s Next

Negotiations between Nottingham Forest and Sporting will resume next week, with both sides hoping to find common ground. Sporting must decide whether to abandon their loan-first stance and commit to a permanent deal, while Forest will wait to see if any rival bids emerge. If an agreement can be reached quickly, Jota Silva could join Sporting in time for their opening league fixture — but if talks drag on, other clubs could easily hijack the move.

Should Sporting pay the €8m now and secure Jota Silva before another club swoops in?
