Newcastle United have entered the race to sign AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori as the Serie A club step up efforts to secure the England international's departure this summer.

The 28-year-old is expected to leave San Siro before the transfer window closes after falling out of Ruben Amorim's long-term plans, with Coventry City also continuing to pursue a deal.

Newcastle make contact over Tomori

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle have already made enquiries about the former Chelsea defender as they explore defensive reinforcements.

Coventry were the first English club to express serious interest, but Eddie Howe's side have now emerged as strong contenders for Tomori's signature.

The centre-back is believed to be weighing up his options before making a decision on his next club.

AC Milan pushing for permanent sale

Tomori has entered the final two years of his contract, which expires in 2027, and Milan are keen to avoid the risk of his value falling further.

The Italian club are currently prioritising player sales and are looking to complete Tomori's exit as quickly as possible.

Previous reports have valued the defender at between €15 million and €20 million, making him an affordable option for several Premier League clubs.

What's next?

Tomori is expected to assess his options over the coming weeks before deciding on his next destination.

With AC Milan eager to finalise a sale and Newcastle now joining Coventry in the race, the defender's future could be resolved before the transfer window enters its final stages.

Would Fikayo Tomori be a smart signing for Newcastle United, or should Eddie Howe pursue a younger centre-back instead?
