Hamburg confirm competitive offer for Arsenal midfielder Fábio Vieira

Hamburg SV have confirmed they are actively trying to sign Fábio Vieira from Arsenal, with the Bundesliga club revealing they have already submitted what they describe as a "competitive offer" for the Portuguese midfielder.

Vieira impressed during his loan spell at Hamburg last season, and the newly promoted German side are determined to make the move permanent despite Arsenal's firm valuation.

Club officials have now publicly acknowledged negotiations, while the player is reportedly prepared to wait for the two clubs to reach an agreement.

Hamburg chief financial officer and board member Eric Huwer has revealed the club have formally presented offers to both Arsenal and Vieira.

Speaking during a fan event alongside sporting director Kathleen Krüger, Huwer admitted Hamburg are continuing to push for the midfielder's signature.

"Fábio is a fantastic player, and we feel like we're fighting for him every single day," Huwer said.

"We've also backed up our interest with Arsenal with financial figures. The situation is well known. But right now, no one's flinching."

He added that Hamburg believe they have submitted the strongest proposal possible without putting the club's finances at risk.

Negotiations remain difficult because Arsenal are unwilling to lower their asking price.

Reports from Germany earlier this month claimed the Gunners want at least €20 million for Vieira, while Hamburg are reluctant to go beyond €10 million.

That gap remains the biggest obstacle to completing a permanent transfer.

Vieira is under contract at Arsenal until 2027, meaning the Premier League club are under no immediate pressure to sell.

The midfielder is understood to be eager to return to Hamburg after a successful loan spell during the 2025/26 campaign.

Vieira scored seven goals and provided six assists in 31 appearances, becoming one of the club's standout performers.

Reports in Germany indicate the Portuguese playmaker wants the move to happen and is prepared to remain patient while Arsenal and Hamburg continue negotiations.

Despite their determination, Hamburg insist they will not exceed their financial limits.

Huwer made it clear the club will respect Arsenal's decision if an agreement cannot be reached.

"We're naturally very curious to see whether he and Arsenal will accept it," he said.

"We fell a little bit in love with Fábio last year, but we're not going to be unreasonable. If Arsenal says yes, we'll be happy to have Fábio; if they say no, we'll be happy to have someone else."

Hamburg will continue talks with Arsenal in an attempt to bridge the valuation gap over Vieira. The player remains keen on returning to Germany, but a transfer is likely to depend on whether Arsenal soften their demands before the transfer window closes.
