Everton make move for Norway goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland after World Cup

Everton have made an approach for free-agent goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland after the Norway international enhanced his reputation during the World Cup.

The 35-year-old is available after leaving Sevilla at the end of his contract, and his performances on the international stage have put him back on the radar of several European clubs. Everton are now among those exploring a deal.

Nyland heads into the new season without a club after his spell in Spain came to an end.

Although he lost his starting place at Sevilla following Odysseas Vlachodimos' arrival from Newcastle United, the experienced goalkeeper remained Norway's first choice and played a key role in their run to the World Cup quarter-finals.

His displays have reportedly convinced Everton to make an initial approach, with the Toffees keen to add experienced competition behind Jordan Pickford without paying a transfer fee.

For a club still keeping a close eye on spending, the opportunity to sign an established international on a free transfer is an attractive one.

While Everton can offer Premier League football, regular minutes are far less certain.

Pickford remains David Moyes' undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, meaning Nyland would arrive at Goodison Park as a backup rather than a guaranteed starter.

That may prove to be the biggest obstacle.

The Norwegian is also attracting interest from Feyenoord, as well as clubs in Germany and Italy, with some of those options potentially offering a clearer route to first-team football.

Nyland must now decide whether the financial package on offer in England outweighs the prospect of playing more regularly elsewhere.

Nyland is expected to consider all of his options before making a decision on his next club. Everton have already opened discussions, but with interest building across Europe, the experienced goalkeeper is unlikely to rush his choice despite being available on a free transfer.
