Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin believes Estevao Willian could eventually leave Stamford Bridge if his lack of playing time continues under Xabi Alonso.
The 19-year-old Brazilian has played just 29 minutes of Premier League football this season, with Cole Palmer and £117million summer signing Morgan Rogers ahead of him in Chelsea's attacking options.
Nevin remains convinced of Estevao's talent but fears the club's current tactical system could prevent him from fulfilling his potential.
Nevin questions Estevao's long-term Chelsea future
Speaking to GOAL, Nevin praised the former Palmeiras youngster while expressing doubts about his prospects in west London.
"When he arrived at Chelsea and he played a couple of games, I thought what a fantastic, brilliant player," Nevin said.
"I absolutely, totally love him. And he'll be a great player, but probably not for Chelsea."
Estevao impressed during his debut season before injury disrupted his progress and ended his hopes of representing Brazil at the World Cup.
His opportunities have become even more limited following Alonso's appointment and the arrival of Rogers from Aston Villa.
Chelsea's preferred 3-4-2-1 formation does not use traditional wingers, leaving Estevao competing for attacking positions that are already occupied by established players.
January transfer speculation grows
Nevin believes Estevao could consider his options when the January transfer window opens, although he stopped short of calling for an immediate departure.
"I wouldn't be surprised," he said when asked whether the Brazilian might explore a move.
"But his big problem is the system. The system and the playing staff you've got there, it's going to be limited."
Nevin argued that occasional substitute appearances would not provide the consistent experience a player of Estevao's age needs.
However, Chelsea have reasons to retain the youngster, particularly as cover for Palmer and Rogers.
Estevao is under contract until 2033, meaning the club retain significant control over his future.
