Real Madrid agree personal terms with Chelsea star Enzo Fernández ahead of potential transfer

Real Madrid have reportedly taken a significant step towards signing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández after reaching a personal agreement with the Argentina international ahead of a potential summer move.

Reports emerging from Spain suggest the European giants have already agreed terms with the 25-year-old and his representatives, laying the groundwork for a transfer that could be revisited after this summer's World Cup.

While no agreement currently exists between the clubs, the reported breakthrough strengthens Madrid's position if they decide to formally pursue the Chelsea star in the coming months.

According to Spanish journalist Miguel 'Látigo' Serrano, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is preparing for a major transfer push and views Fernández as one of the club's priority targets.

The report claims an understanding has been reached between Real Madrid, the player and his representatives regarding a future move to the Santiago Bernabéu.

However, the deal remains conditional on successful negotiations with Chelsea.

Serrano explained that while personal terms are reportedly settled, no transfer agreement exists between the two clubs, meaning the most difficult stage of the operation may still lie ahead.

Even with the player's apparent willingness to join Real Madrid, Chelsea retain full control of the situation.

The Blues invested approximately €121 million to sign Fernández in 2023 and are understood to have little interest in sanctioning his departure. Reports in England have consistently indicated that Chelsea view the Argentine as a key figure within their long-term project.

That leaves Real Madrid facing a potentially expensive negotiation.

Fernández is currently estimated to be worth around €90 million, although Chelsea would almost certainly seek a fee significantly higher than that given his age, profile and contractual position.

Having followed Chelsea's development over the last season, Fernández has remained one of the squad's most influential midfielders, making any potential exit particularly difficult to justify from the club's perspective.

Madrid's interest is understandable.

Despite already possessing one of Europe's strongest midfield departments, the club continue to plan for the future and are constantly looking for elite-level additions capable of maintaining their dominance domestically and in Europe.

Fernández would offer technical quality, ball progression, defensive work rate and experience at the highest level despite still being in the prime years of his career.

His World Cup-winning pedigree with Argentina only adds to his appeal.

The fact that personal terms are reportedly already in place also suggests the player sees Madrid as an attractive next step should the opportunity arise.

However, it remains too early to draw firm conclusions. Securing a player's approval is often only the first stage of a complex transfer, particularly when dealing with a club reluctant to sell.
