Newcastle United have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi, with Nottingham Forest also remaining firmly in the race for the Italy international.

Frattesi is expected to leave the Serie A giants this summer after enduring a frustrating campaign in which he struggled for regular minutes under Cristian Chivu.

With his future set to be discussed in the coming days, a move to the Premier League is increasingly viewed as the most likely outcome.

Frattesi expected to leave Inter

The 26-year-old found opportunities difficult to come by during the 2025/26 season, making limited appearances in both Serie A and the Champions League.

Inter blocked a move to Nottingham Forest in January after failing to secure Curtis Jones as a replacement, forcing Frattesi to remain in Milan.

His situation failed to improve during the second half of the season, leaving both player and club prepared to consider a summer departure.

Agent confirms talks are imminent

Frattesi's agent, Giuseppe Riso, has confirmed he is set to hold talks with Inter regarding the midfielder's future.

Speaking to Calciomercato, Riso said:

"I still have to meet with Inter. As soon as I meet them, we'll know. It's an evolving situation."

When asked about a possible move to Juventus, the agent refused to rule anything in or out before discussions with Inter take place.

Newcastle ahead of Nottingham Forest

According to Calciomercato, Newcastle currently lead the race for Frattesi's signature.

The Magpies have an excellent relationship with Riso, who has previously worked on deals involving Sandro Tonali, giving the Premier League club an advantage in negotiations.

Nottingham Forest remain interested after attempting to sign Frattesi in January, while Juventus are currently the only Serie A club to have shown concrete interest.

With no significant competition emerging from Italy, England is viewed as the midfielder's most likely destination.

What this means

Frattesi appears increasingly likely to leave Inter after another season spent on the fringes. Newcastle's strong relationship with his agent could prove decisive, although Nottingham Forest remain ready to revive their long-standing interest if the opportunity arises.
