Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has reportedly reached an agreement in principle over a new contract that would keep him at Elland Road until 2029.

According to The Athletic, the German coach and Leeds have agreed the broad structure of an extension, although the paperwork has yet to be finalised and signed.

The development comes after months of negotiations, with Farke's current contract due to expire next summer.

Leeds United decline to comment on Farke agreement

The Athletic reported on Friday that Leeds and Farke had reached an agreement in principle over a deal running until 2029.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano subsequently shared the development.

However, Leeds declined to comment when approached by the Yorkshire Evening Post, meaning the extension has not yet been officially confirmed.

Managing director Robbie Evans previously acknowledged that discussions were progressing positively.

"Daniel's done a fantastic job here, and we're thrilled with the last couple seasons," Evans said last month.

"We want to keep it going, keep building the long-term project."

Evans also explained that both parties were aligned on their ambitions, despite taking time to finalise the terms.

Farke rewarded after impressive Leeds progress

Farke joined Leeds in July 2023 following their relegation from the Premier League.

His first campaign ended in disappointment as Leeds lost the Championship play-off final to Southampton, but he subsequently guided the Whites back to the top flight as champions.

Leeds then secured a 14th-place Premier League finish last season.

Their encouraging start to the current campaign included six unbeaten matches before last weekend's narrow 2-1 defeat to reigning champions Arsenal.

That progress has strengthened the case for extending Farke's tenure as Leeds continue building towards long-term Premier League stability.
