Inter Milan are preparing a fresh attempt to sign Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones after reopening discussions with the Premier League club over a summer transfer.

The Serie A champions have already strengthened their defence with the arrival of John Stones, but attention has now shifted towards reinforcing Cristian Chivu's midfield. Jones remains one of Inter's priority targets, and club officials are reportedly ready to increase their offer in an effort to finally secure his signature.

Despite growing optimism in Italy, Liverpool are expected to drive a hard bargain.

Inter refuse to give up on Jones

Inter's interest in Jones dates back to the January transfer window, when a move failed to materialise after Davide Frattesi remained at the San Siro.

The Italian giants revived their pursuit earlier this summer with an offer worth around €25 million, but Liverpool rejected the proposal.

According to reports, Inter have now reopened talks through intermediaries and are preparing an improved bid worth €35 million.

The midfielder has also fuelled speculation among supporters after liking Inter's social media announcement confirming the signing of John Stones, although there is no indication that this reflects any formal intention to leave Liverpool.

Liverpool maintain €40m valuation

While Inter are willing to increase their offer, Liverpool are reportedly holding firm on their asking price of €40 million.

Jones is entering the final year of his current contract, which expires in June 2027, but the Reds are under no immediate pressure to sell.

Reports suggest there are currently no active negotiations over a contract extension. However, should Inter fail to meet Liverpool's valuation, the Merseyside club could reopen discussions over a new deal to secure the England midfielder's long-term future.

For now, the €5 million gap between the two clubs remains the main obstacle to completing the transfer.

Chivu wants more midfield quality

Speaking during Inter's pre-season tour in Hong Kong, head coach Cristian Chivu underlined his desire to continue strengthening the squad despite recent additions.

The Romanian coach believes Inter must continue adding top-quality players capable of maintaining the club's ambitions both domestically and in Europe.

Jones fits that profile, with the 25-year-old admired for his technical ability, versatility and experience at the highest level.

Inter are hopeful that renewed negotiations can eventually persuade Liverpool to soften their stance, but much will depend on whether either club is prepared to compromise over the transfer fee.

Key Points

  • Inter Milan have reopened talks with Liverpool over Curtis Jones.
  • The Serie A champions are preparing an improved €35 million offer.
  • Liverpool continue to value the midfielder at €40 million.
  • Inter previously had a €25 million bid rejected earlier this summer.
  • Cristian Chivu has identified midfield as a priority area for reinforcement.

What's Next?

Inter are expected to continue negotiations with Liverpool over the coming days as they attempt to bridge the remaining gap in valuation. Whether the Reds lower their asking price or Inter decide to increase their offer further is likely to determine if Jones completes a move to the San Siro before the transfer window closes.
