Inter believe Curtis Jones deal can help Liverpool sign Dumfries

Inter Milan are continuing their pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, with the Italian club increasingly convinced they can secure the England international for less than alternative targets this summer.

The Serie A giants have already held discussions with Liverpool and, according to reports in Italy, believe Jones represents a more affordable option than Roma midfielder Manu Koné.

While negotiations remain complicated, Denzel Dumfries could emerge as an important factor in any eventual agreement between the two clubs.

Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio reportedly spoke with Liverpool counterpart Richard Hughes earlier this week as the Nerazzurri continue exploring a move for Jones.

The midfielder has become one of Inter's priority targets, particularly because of his contract situation.

Jones' current deal expires in 2027 and Italian reports suggest Inter hope that could eventually help drive down Liverpool's asking price.

At present, Liverpool are said to value the midfielder at around €30 million.

Inter, however, are reportedly only prepared to pay around €20m, creating a significant gap between the clubs.

Despite that difference, negotiations remain active.

One factor working in Inter's favour is the player's stance.

Reports from Italy claim Jones remains very interested in joining the Milan club and has maintained that position since Inter first approached him during the January transfer window.

Newcastle United have also been linked with the midfielder in recent months, but it is claimed the Liverpool academy graduate would prefer a move to Italy rather than remain in the Premier League.

Having followed Jones' development at Anfield, regular first-team football appears to be one of the key motivations behind his desire to explore a new challenge.

An intriguing aspect of the story concerns Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries.

According to reports, Liverpool's interest in the Dutch international has not disappeared and his situation could indirectly influence talks over Jones.

Dumfries is understood to have a €25m release clause that is now active, making him one of the more affordable high-level wing-back options available this summer.

The 29-year-old is also reportedly open to seeking a new challenge away from San Siro.

That has inevitably fuelled speculation that discussions involving Jones and Dumfries could become connected.

While no formal swap arrangement has been reported, the existence of mutual interest between the clubs creates obvious possibilities.

Inter are expected to continue discussions throughout June and could intensify negotiations once player sales generate additional funds. The Italian club believe time may work in their favour given Jones' contract situation and desire for a new challenge.

Meanwhile, Liverpool must decide whether to stand firm on their valuation or seek a compromise that could also help facilitate a move for Dumfries. As things stand, there is still work to be done, but all parties appear interested in finding a solution.
