Brian Brobbey could be offered a surprise move to Serie A before the summer transfer window closes, with Como reportedly considering an approach for the Sunderland striker.

According to transfer reporter Mounir Boualin, the ambitious Italian club have already contacted the former Ajax forward's camp to establish whether he would be interested in moving to Italy.

Brobbey has not rejected the possibility, although Como's pursuit currently depends on what happens with their proposed deal for Moise Kean.

Como identify Brobbey as Kean alternative

Como have been working on a move for Kean but uncertainty surrounding those negotiations has forced them to consider alternatives.

The proposed structure would see Como take the Italian striker on loan for €10million, followed by a €25m obligation to buy at the end of the season.

However, that transfer is now said to be in doubt.

Should Como fail to complete the Kean deal, Brobbey has emerged as a serious alternative for Cesc Fabregas' side.

Boualin reports that Como have already approached Brobbey to determine his willingness to make the switch to Serie A. The Netherlands international is not immediately dismissing the possibility, giving the Italian club encouragement should they decide to proceed.

Sunderland could demand major fee

Convincing Brobbey may only be one part of the challenge.

Sunderland are expected to demand tens of millions of euros before considering a late sale, particularly given the limited time available to secure a replacement.

The Black Cats invested €20m to sign Brobbey from Ajax only a year ago and his first Premier League campaign strengthened his value.

Brobbey scored seven goals and provided one assist across 31 Premier League appearances during his debut season in England.

That return, combined with his age and international experience, leaves Sunderland in a strong negotiating position.

No formal offer from Como has been reported at this stage, meaning their interest has yet to develop into club-to-club negotiations.

Brobbey facing intriguing deadline decision

A move would represent a significant change for Brobbey only 12 months after leaving Ajax for English football.

Como's interest also provides the 24-year-old with the possibility of joining an ambitious Serie A project under Fabregas.

Much now depends on Kean.

If Como can rescue that deal, their interest in Brobbey may go no further. If negotiations collapse completely, however, the Sunderland striker appears well placed on their shortlist as the Italian club prepare to move quickly before the deadline.

Key Points

  • Como are seriously considering Brian Brobbey as an alternative to Moise Kean.
  • Transfer reporter Mounir Boualin says Como have already contacted Brobbey's camp.
  • The Sunderland striker has not rejected the possibility of moving to Serie A.
  • Sunderland are expected to demand tens of millions of euros for the 24-year-old.
  • Brobbey recorded seven goals and one assist in 31 Premier League games last season.

What’s Next?

Como's next move is likely to depend on whether their proposed deal for Kean can be completed.

If that transfer collapses, the Serie A club could quickly turn their attention towards Brobbey. Sunderland's valuation would then become the major obstacle, with no formal bid reported so far.
