RB Leipzig in Talks with Oliver Glasner’s Management as Summer Move Looms
RB Leipzig have reportedly made contact with the management of Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner as they look to secure his services for the summer, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Recent reports have indicated that Glasner is among the key candidates being considered by the German club to replace Marco Rose, who was dismissed from his role on Sunday. Leipzig are actively exploring new managerial options ahead of the upcoming season.
Glasner’s impressive work at Selhurst Park this season has certainly caught the attention of Leipzig, who are now considering him as one of the potential successors to Rose. Plettenberg confirms that Glasner "remains a candidate" for the role, especially after Sebastian Hoeneß extended his contract with VfB Stuttgart.
It's reported that talks have already taken place between Leipzig and Glasner’s representatives. However, a potential move would require a transfer fee, as the Austrian coach is contracted with Crystal Palace until 2026. While details of any potential exit clause remain unclear, Plettenberg notes that this contract could allow for a departure.
Last year, Bayern Munich made an €18m offer for Glasner, only to be met with a €100m asking price from Crystal Palace.
Additionally, Plettenberg reveals that Leipzig’s sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, has a close relationship with Glasner from their time at Wolfsburg, which may be influencing Leipzig's interest in the Crystal Palace manager.
While this development continues to stir speculation, sources in Germany emphasize that Glasner is indeed on Leipzig’s radar. Fellow journalist Phillip Hinze has added that contact with Glasner has now been "established," and there have even been discussions regarding a potential move. However, Leipzig declined to comment on both the meeting and Glasner’s name when asked by the press. Hinze also notes that there is a release clause in Glasner’s current contract with Crystal Palace.
