Fulham have stepped up their pursuit of Chibuike Nwaiwu after submitting an improved offer for the highly-rated Trabzonspor defender.
The Premier League club are keen to strengthen at the back following Issa Diop's impending move to Ipswich Town, but negotiations remain ongoing with the Turkish side holding firm on their valuation.
Fulham increase offer for Nwaiwu
Sources in Turkey claim Fulham have raised their bid to €28 million in an attempt to secure the 21-year-old centre-back.
Trabzonspor, however, are continuing to demand between €30 million and €35 million, believing the Nigeria defender's growing reputation justifies a significantly higher fee.
Should the Turkish club receive a deal at the top end of that valuation, it would become the biggest sale in Trabzonspor's history.
Diop exit driving defensive rebuild
Fulham's move for Nwaiwu comes as Issa Diop closes in on a permanent transfer to Ipswich Town.
With the experienced defender expected to leave Craven Cottage, head coach Álvaro Arbeloa has identified Nwaiwu as one of his priority defensive targets ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
What's next?
Fulham are expected to continue negotiations with Trabzonspor over the coming days as they look to finalise a replacement for Diop.
Whether the Premier League side decide to increase their offer closer to Trabzonspor's valuation could determine if Nwaiwu becomes the latest addition to Arbeloa's defensive rebuild before the start of the new season.
Should Fulham meet Trabzonspor's asking price for Chibuike Nwaiwu, or look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements?
