Chelsea have agreed to loan striker Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich in a deal worth €15m, with an option to buy set at €65m. The Senegal international, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023 for €35m, has found himself pushed down the pecking order following the arrivals of Liam Delap and João Pedro this summer.
The loan fee is among the highest in football history. Only Álvaro Morata’s loan switches — €20m from Atletico Madrid to Juventus and €18m from Chelsea to Atletico — and Giovani Lo Celso’s €16m move from Real Betis to Tottenham surpass it.
Should Bayern exercise their purchase clause, Chelsea will more than double their initial investment, banking close to €80m overall for the 23-year-old. For Bayern, the deal provides a potential long-term replacement in attack while easing their striker shortage heading into the Bundesliga campaign.
Why Jackson Wanted Out of Chelsea
Despite scoring 10 goals and providing 5 assists across 37 appearances, Jackson never fully convinced at Stamford Bridge. His wages of £100,000 per week — totalling £5.2m annually — reflect his status as a major squad investment, but competition has intensified.
With Chelsea moving for Delap and João Pedro, both of whom impressed in pre-season, Jackson requested a move to ensure regular game time. Bayern’s interest offered him the chance to compete at the highest level while also potentially reviving his market value.

Jackson’s output was steady but unspectacular. While he showed flashes of link-up play and pressing energy, Chelsea’s recruitment of new forwards signalled a lack of faith in his ability to lead the line.
Analyst Verdict – John William
FootballPlace analyst John William believes Chelsea have played this deal perfectly:
“Chelsea are making a smart business decision. They’ve secured one of the largest loan fees in history and protected themselves with a huge option to buy. If Bayern take it up, they more than double their original investment. If not, they’ve earned €15m for a season-long loan.”
He added: “For Bayern, it’s low risk. Jackson is young, athletic and has Bundesliga attributes. If he clicks, €65m isn’t unreasonable in today’s market. If he doesn’t, Bayern can walk away.”
Key Insights
- Nicolas Jackson joins Bayern on €15m loan with €65m option to buy.
- Fourth-highest loan fee ever, behind Morata (x2) and Lo Celso.
- 37 games, 10 goals, 5 assists for Chelsea last season.
- Jackson earns £100k a week, £5.2m annually.
- Fell down Chelsea’s pecking order after Delap & João Pedro arrivals.
What’s Next for Chelsea and Bayern?
Jackson is due to undergo his medical in Germany today before being unveiled as a Bayern player. For Chelsea, the move frees up squad space and wages while they continue to reshape their attack under the new-look frontline.
For Bayern, Jackson will be assessed quickly with the Bundesliga already underway. If he adapts, Bayern may move fast to trigger the buy clause before his value rises further.
Should Chelsea have kept Jackson for depth, or was cashing in on Bayern’s offer the smarter move?

Unbelieveable business from Chelsea - I mean not sure if they'll trigger the transfer next summer, but if they do we receive a lot of money from a striker that couldn't make those sitters...
