Burnley sign Largie Ramazani from Leeds in £8.5m deal after Valencia move fails

Burnley have confirmed the signing of Largie Ramazani from Leeds United on an initial loan deal that includes an obligation to buy.

The recently relegated Clarets will pay £6.5million plus a further £2m for the winger once the permanent clause in the agreement is triggered.

Ramazani had hoped to return to Valencia following his previous loan spell with the Spanish club, but Valencia were unable to reach an agreement with Leeds. That opened the door for Burnley to bring the 25-year-old back to the Championship.

Burnley have moved quickly to strengthen their attacking options following relegation from the Premier League.

Ramazani arrives with significant Championship experience from his time at Leeds and provides another direct option from the wide areas as the Clarets attempt to build a squad capable of challenging for an immediate return to the top flight.

The structure of the transfer also means this is more than a temporary solution.

Burnley have taken Ramazani on loan initially, but the agreement contains an obligation to buy worth £6.5m plus £2m in additional payments.

That could take the overall value of the operation to £8.5m.

Burnley were not necessarily Ramazani's preferred destination earlier in the window.

The winger wanted to return to Valencia, where he had previously spent time on loan and was open to continuing his career in Spain.

Valencia were also interested in bringing him back, but negotiations with Leeds failed to produce an agreement.

With that route closed, Burnley emerged as a solution during the final stages of the transfer window and have now completed the deal.

For Leeds, the agreement provides a clear pathway towards permanently moving Ramazani off their books rather than sanctioning another loan without certainty over his longer-term future.

Ramazani originally developed in Manchester United's academy before leaving England for Almería in 2020.

His performances in Spain eventually earned him a move to Leeds, but he has now been allowed to leave Elland Road as Daniel Farke reshapes his squad for the Premier League campaign.

Burnley's situation is very different.

Following their relegation, the Clarets need players capable of making an immediate impact in the Championship while simultaneously rebuilding for the longer term.

Ramazani's pace and ability to operate across the attacking line give them another weapon as they target promotion.

The permanent obligation also demonstrates that Burnley view the winger as part of that project beyond the current campaign.

Ramazani can now concentrate on helping Burnley challenge for an immediate Premier League return following their relegation to the Championship.

For Leeds, the obligation to buy provides clarity over the winger's future, while Burnley have secured a player they expect to retain permanently rather than simply borrowing for one season.
