Brajan Gruda’s immediate future is once again becoming a talking point, with his loan spell at RB Leipzig coming to an end and no clear long-term solution yet in place. The Brighton midfielder is expected to officially say goodbye to Leipzig this weekend, but a permanent move to Germany currently looks difficult despite a successful short-term relationship.

According to journalist Philipp Hinze, Leipzig have no purchase option in the current agreement and a second loan deal with Brighton is not considered realistic.

That leaves Brighton with an important summer decision.

RB Leipzig unlikely to extend Brajan Gruda stay

Gruda’s loan spell in Germany appears to have achieved its short-term objective.

After struggling for regular minutes at Brighton, the move back to the Bundesliga gave him the chance to rebuild rhythm, confidence and visibility — particularly with international ambitions still alive.

Reports suggest Leipzig have been pleased with his contribution, and the player has been equally positive about the experience.

But the financial reality is making any permanent continuation difficult. Leipzig have not budgeted for a full transfer this summer, and Brighton are unwilling to sanction another simple loan.

Why Brighton are blocking another loan

Brighton’s position is being driven by economics. The Seagulls invested heavily when they signed Gruda in 2024, paying around €31.5 million for the attacking midfielder.

At this stage of his contract cycle, another standard loan would do little to protect or increase that investment.

Any future temporary deal would likely need an obligation to buy attached. That structure would protect Brighton’s long-term financial position.

Having followed Brighton’s transfer model closely in recent years, the club rarely make emotional decisions with player trading. Development and asset value remain central to every move.

Could RB Leipzig still make a move?

A permanent transfer this summer cannot be completely ruled out. The report suggests Leipzig’s financial flexibility could change depending on outgoings — particularly if major sales generate significant funds.

One name mentioned internally is Yan Diomande, whose potential departure could dramatically reshape Leipzig’s transfer budget.

For now, though, Gruda’s return would be, in the words of the report, “long and complicated”.

What happens next at Brighton?

This is where the situation becomes more interesting.

It remains unclear whether Gruda fits into Fabian Hürzeler’s plans at Brighton moving forward.
The 21-year-old’s lack of consistent opportunities earlier this season led directly to the January loan exit, suggesting his role at the club remains uncertain.

Based on Brighton’s recent squad planning, a permanent sale or structured loan with obligation could become the most logical solution.

Key Insights

  • Brajan Gruda will leave RB Leipzig as his loan expires
  • Leipzig have no purchase option in the agreement
  • Brighton do not want another standard loan deal
  • A permanent move is currently not financially viable for Leipzig
  • Fabian Hürzeler must decide Gruda’s role this summer

What’s next for Gruda?

Gruda is expected to return to Brighton after his final Leipzig appearance this weekend, where the club will assess his role during pre-season planning. If he remains outside Hürzeler’s immediate plans, Brighton could explore a permanent transfer or structured loan.

Interest from Germany is unlikely to disappear, but any future deal may require more creative negotiation.
