Borussia Dortmund considered late move for Tottenham winger Mikey Moore

Borussia Dortmund reportedly considered a late move for Tottenham Hotspur winger Mikey Moore before the teenager completed his switch to FC Köln.

Moore left Spurs during the summer in search of regular first-team football, but it appears Köln had to contend with late interest in the highly-rated 19-year-old.

According to Fussball Transfers, Dortmund were among the clubs considering Moore while looking to strengthen their attacking options.

Köln managing director Thomas Kessler has suggested other clubs became interested once it became clear his side had a realistic opportunity to land Moore.

"When there is a public perception that we at 1. FC Köln have a chance to sign a player like that, you can imagine that one or two Bundesliga or international clubs might ask just how certain the deal really is," Kessler said.

Fussball Transfers believe Dortmund were one of those clubs.

BVB were looking for another winger in August following the injury suffered by Giannis Konstantelias. They ultimately brought in Ethan Nwaneri from Arsenal, but Moore was reportedly among the alternatives considered.

Kessler stopped short of directly confirming Dortmund's interest when questioned about the situation.

"I'm not familiar with Borussia's squad planning – except for one player, and he's still with us," he said.

Whatever interest emerged elsewhere, Moore apparently had little intention of changing his plans.

Kessler praised the Tottenham youngster for sticking to his word after committing himself to Köln.

"He was clear about his intentions the whole time and wanted to come to Cologne. Mikey kept his word," he explained.

That was particularly important because Moore had already been forced to wait before completing his Tottenham exit.

Roberto De Zerbi was reportedly reluctant to sanction the move until Spurs had strengthened their own attacking options.

Tottenham eventually completed late deals for Omar Marmoush and Savinho, clearing the way for Moore to leave.

From Moore's perspective, the decision ultimately comes down to minutes.

The winger needed a club capable of providing the first-team opportunities that were unlikely to be consistently available at Tottenham this season.

His early signs in Germany have been encouraging, with Fussball Transfers highlighting the impact he made on his Köln debut.

Dortmund may have represented the bigger name, but moving from Tottenham to another club packed with high-level attacking talent would not necessarily have solved the problem Moore was trying to escape.

Köln can offer him something potentially more valuable at this stage of his career: a realistic route to regular football.

For a 19-year-old with Moore's potential, that could prove far more important than the badge on the shirt.

Moore's priority will now be establishing himself as a regular starter in Germany and turning his early promise into consistent Bundesliga performances.

If he does, Dortmund may not be the last major club to take an interest in the Tottenham youngster.
