Crystal Palace have opened negotiations with Chelsea over the signing of Axel Disasi as the Eagles prepare for the possible departure of Maxence Lacroix this summer.

Chelsea remain interested in signing Lacroix, with talks between the two Premier League clubs continuing. Palace are now actively exploring defensive reinforcements, with Disasi emerging as one of their leading targets.

The move could see the two French centre-backs effectively swap clubs before the transfer window closes.

Palace target Disasi as Lacroix successor

Crystal Palace have been assessing centre-back options throughout the summer and have now stepped up their pursuit of Disasi.

The 28-year-old is among several defenders identified by Palace's recruitment team, but discussions with Chelsea have now moved into an active phase.

Chelsea are understood to favour a permanent transfer and have valued the France international at £25 million plus add-ons.

Chelsea continue pursuit of Lacroix

Chelsea's interest in Lacroix remains strong as Xabi Alonso looks to strengthen his defence ahead of the new season.

Palace are under no immediate pressure to sell, however, with the 26-year-old still having three years remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.

That leaves the South London club in a strong negotiating position as discussions continue.

Disasi available after West Ham loan

Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United, where he impressed with a series of solid performances.

The defender has not returned for Chelsea's pre-season training as the club work to secure a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge.

West Ham have also been linked with the Frenchman, although reports suggest Disasi is not interested in playing in the Championship.

Palace assessing defensive options

Disasi is not the only defender on Palace's shortlist.

Football Place revealed last week that the Eagles also admire Chrislain Matsima, although no formal talks have yet taken place with the Augsburg defender.

With Pierre Sage beginning his reign following Oliver Glasner's departure, strengthening the defence remains one of Palace's key priorities before the Premier League campaign gets underway.
