Aston Villa given Jonathan David opportunity as Juventus lower price

Aston Villa could reportedly sign Jonathan David for as little as €20m after Juventus lowered their demands for the Canada international, with a loan deal also potentially acceptable to the Serie A club.

Villa have already made initial contact over David, whose position in Turin has become increasingly uncertain after falling out of favour under Luciano Spalletti.

According to Calciomercato, Juventus are keen to find a solution for David before the transfer window closes.

The Italian club had previously valued the striker at around €30m, but their position has now softened. A permanent transfer could reportedly be agreed for between €20m and €25m.

That represents a potentially favourable opportunity for Aston Villa after their earlier interest in the forward.

David joined Juventus on a free transfer, meaning a permanent sale would also provide the club with a significant capital gain from an accounting perspective.

There are currently no active negotiations over his departure, according to the report. Paris FC have also shown interest without making a formal move.

A permanent transfer is not the only possibility.

Juventus are reportedly prepared to consider sending David out on loan, which would remove some of his costs from their books and create additional financial flexibility for another attacking signing.

Such an agreement could also allow Juventus to revisit a permanent sale in 2027.

David's position has changed after a difficult club campaign despite impressing for Canada at the World Cup. Spalletti now has Randal Kolo Muani available as his preferred striker option, leaving David outside the Italian club's plans.

Juventus' willingness to negotiate on both the structure and price of a deal could therefore give Villa several ways to pursue the 26-year-old.

Aston Villa's need for another striker may depend heavily on Ollie Watkins.

The England international has attracted reported interest from clubs in the Middle East and Turkey in recent weeks. Should Watkins leave before the deadline, Unai Emery would need another established attacking option.

David could become particularly attractive in that scenario.

A potential €20m-€25m fee would represent a relatively modest outlay for an experienced international striker, while the possibility of a loan could reduce Villa's immediate financial commitment even further.

There is also an important Juventus angle. Moving David on would provide the Italian club with greater freedom to pursue another forward, with Joshua Zirkzee identified in the supplied reporting as a player they could then target.

There are no active negotiations for David at present, so Villa must first decide whether to turn their earlier interest into a formal move.

Watkins' situation could prove decisive. If Villa lose their striker late in the window, Juventus' willingness to lower David's price or discuss a loan would provide Emery with an accessible replacement option without requiring a lengthy negotiation over a premium transfer fee.
