Liverpool face RB Leipzig resistance in Assan Ouédraogo transfer pursuit

Liverpool’s reported interest in RB Leipzig midfielder Assan Ouédraogo may be genuine, but if the idea was to test the waters with a €40 million offer, the early reaction in Germany suggests it would go nowhere.

The 19-year-old has become one of the most closely watched young midfielders in Europe over the last year, and his development at Leipzig has naturally drawn attention from several top clubs, including Bayern Munich and now Liverpool.

But while interest is growing, Leipzig’s position appears firm.

According to BILD, the German club have no intention of opening the door to a summer sale and would not even entertain offers in the region currently being discussed.

Leipzig have long been one of Europe’s strongest development clubs, and Ouédraogo is increasingly viewed as the next major talent to emerge from their system.

Despite suffering two knee injuries during his development, the midfielder has still managed to produce enough this season to underline why he remains one of Germany’s highest-rated young players.

His performances at club level have carried into youth international football too, where his profile has continued to rise.

Liverpool’s recruitment relationship with Leipzig is well-established.

However, paying significantly above €40 million for a teenager coming off injury setbacks would still be a major decision.
