Arsenal have positioned themselves in the race for Lille attacker Matias Fernandez-Pardo, but could need an enormous €70million offer to beat RB Leipzig to the Belgian.

The 21-year-old wants to leave Lille and has attracted Mikel Arteta’s attention after producing eight goals and seven assists last season.

RB Leipzig are currently ahead after reaching an agreement in principle over personal terms, but Arsenal could yet disrupt the deal.

Leipzig move hits Lille obstacle

According to Sky Germany, Leipzig have identified Fernandez-Pardo as one of their major attacking targets alongside Christopher Nkunku.

The Bundesliga club have already agreed personal terms in principle with Fernandez-Pardo and submitted an offer worth around €32-33m plus achievable bonuses.

However, Lille are demanding considerably more.

Foot Mercato reports Lille president Olivier Létang wants an “irresistible offer” of around €70m before sanctioning the attacker’s departure.

Leipzig have already had a €35m proposal rejected, while Atlético Madrid have reportedly failed with an offer worth €40m.

Arsenal could hijack deal

That has opened the door for Arsenal to potentially make their move.

The Gunners have Fernandez-Pardo on their attacking shortlist and are said to be “seduced by his explosive qualities”.

His versatility also appeals, with the Belgian capable of operating on the left wing or through the middle as a No.9.

Fernandez-Pardo has made his own position clear by requesting talks over his future as he pushes for a major move.

Arsenal are aware of Lille’s €70m valuation, although there is currently no indication they are prepared to meet it.

Key Points

  • Arsenal are interested in Matias Fernandez-Pardo after his impressive season with Lille.
  • RB Leipzig have already agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old.
  • Lille have rejected offers of €35m and €40m and are demanding around €70m.
  • Fernandez-Pardo wants a move, but Arsenal have yet to make a reported offer.

What’s Next?

Leipzig currently have the advantage after agreeing terms with Fernandez-Pardo, but Lille’s huge valuation has prevented them from completing the transfer.

Arsenal could now take advantage if they decide to make a serious late-window push, although getting anywhere close to €70m would represent a major investment in the 21-year-old.

Should Arsenal spend big to hijack Fernandez-Pardo’s move to Leipzig?
