Nottingham Forest’s new manager Ange Postecoglou endured a difficult debut as his side were beaten 3–0 by Arsenal at the Emirates. Goals from Martin Zubimendi (2) and Viktor Gyökeres condemned Forest to defeat, but Postecoglou insisted he could not fault his players’ effort.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, he admitted the result was disappointing but pointed to disruption during the international break as a factor in his team’s preparation.
“Obviously a disappointing outcome for us. They're a good side and at home, they're a tough proposition. Can't fault the lads' effort but we struggled to get a grip of the game and the second goal after half-time just allowed them to get away from us.”
New Manager, Limited Preparation
Postecoglou explained that a lack of time with his players made his Forest debut particularly challenging:
“This week, it's fair to say, was fairly disruptive for the players. International week as well so they didn't get in until Thursday or Friday then with a new manager, I'm trying to implement new things. So it's entirely understandable that they probably haven't got clarity of thought at the moment. But that's my job to try and embed that over the next few weeks.”
The Australian manager highlighted his squad’s willingness to adapt, stressing that training time will be crucial to improvement.
Opportunities for New Signings
With Forest juggling Premier League, Carabao Cup and European fixtures, Postecoglou promised opportunities for recent arrivals:
“There's opportunities, we've got enough games. Carabao Cup and then Europe kicking off. I was encouraged by the performance of the lads who came on today… I'm sure with some training time and opportunities to play, we'll see what they can contribute.”
That message will reassure Forest fans eager to see their summer recruits fully integrated into the squad.
Postecoglou Embraces the Challenge
Despite the setback, Postecoglou was upbeat about the challenge ahead:
“They’re all big jobs. I haven’t taken over an easy one yet but that’s why I’m here. I love the challenge and we’ll get to where we want to.” — Ange Postecoglou, TNT Sports
The Forest boss also confirmed defender Murillo suffered “just a knock” and should recover quickly with rest.
Analyst Verdict – Patience Required
FootballPlace analyst John William believes Forest fans will need to give Postecoglou time:
“With international disruption, new signings, and one of the toughest possible debuts away to Arsenal, it was never going to be smooth. Postecoglou has the tactical nous and man-management skills, but embedding a new style takes weeks. Forest’s fight last season proves the group has spirit — now they need clarity.”

Unlucky as in no time to prep, way too short. This is on the owner of Nottingham, he should have quitted with Nuno earlier so Ange could have his pre-season with Forest. Anyways, he needs time and I believe they'll do well.
