Fulham closing in on Álvaro Arbeloa appointment after AC Milan rejection

Fulham are edging closer to appointing Álvaro Arbeloa as their new manager following Marco Silva's departure to Benfica.

According to reports from Spain, the former Real Madrid defender has emerged as the leading candidate to take charge at Craven Cottage, with negotiations now approaching their final stages.

The appointment would mark a significant step for Fulham as they look to begin a new era following Silva's successful five-year spell in west London.

Silva's decision to leave Fulham for Benfica created one of the Premier League's most notable managerial vacancies of the summer.

The 43-year-old had also attracted interest from AC Milan, who reportedly held discussions regarding the possibility of bringing him to Serie A.

However, Fulham's persistence and the project presented by the Premier League side are said to have convinced the Spaniard to prioritise a move to England.

While the deal is not yet officially completed, Marca describe Arbeloa's arrival as "imminent".

The remaining work reportedly involves final paperwork, contractual details and administrative formalities before the appointment can be finalised.

Barring any unexpected complications, Fulham are expected to confirm him as Silva's replacement.

If the move is completed, Arbeloa will inherit a squad that has become accustomed to stability and clear tactical direction under Silva.

That transition will not be straightforward.
