Manchester United are continuing to pay part of Altay Bayindir's wages after sanctioning the goalkeeper's loan move to Celta Vigo, with the Spanish club revealing the unusual financial details behind the agreement.
Bayindir joined the La Liga side on loan last week with an option to buy, and Celta's sporting director has now explained how the deal has been structured to benefit both clubs.
Celta reveal unique loan agreement
Speaking at Bayindir's official presentation, Celta Vigo director of football Marco Garcés confirmed Manchester United have retained responsibility for part of the Turkey international's salary.
He also revealed the loan fee could decrease depending on how often Bayindir features during the season.
"If there is a loan payment, it is reduced according to everything he plays. We have a purchase option and, on top of that, United cover part of his wages."
The arrangement means the more Bayindir plays, the lower Celta's eventual loan cost, giving the Spanish club a financial incentive to hand the 28-year-old regular opportunities.
Bayindir explains why he chose Celta
The goalkeeper admitted he received interest from other clubs during the summer, but said a conversation with head coach Claudio Giráldez quickly convinced him that Celta was the right destination.
"Obviously, I had other options, but I knew the history of the club and, after speaking with Claudio, Celta were my only option.
"I spoke to my agent about coming here and giving everything for this club."
Bayindir also cited the chance to play in La Liga and compete in the Europa League as major factors behind his decision.
Fresh chance after Manchester United frustrations
During his time at Old Trafford, Bayindir found first-team opportunities difficult to come by and spent much of his spell as the club's deputy goalkeeper.
He acknowledged the challenges of that role while accepting he must now compete with Andrei Radu for the number one spot at Celta.
"It's not easy being the second goalkeeper. I always try to push myself, but in a team you can't be thinking about your own benefit."
Manchester United's willingness to subsidise part of his wages suggests securing regular football for Bayindir was a priority, rather than maximising immediate financial returns. However, whether the move becomes permanent will depend on his performances in Spain over the coming season.
