Newcastle United have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Aladji Bamba from AS Monaco, with the highly-rated midfielder set to complete a move worth €41 million.

The 20-year-old is understood to be travelling to England to undergo a medical before signing a long-term contract, as Eddie Howe continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

Bamba's arrival follows another busy summer of investment at St James' Park.

Newcastle close in on Bamba

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Newcastle have reached an agreement with Monaco for the France youth international.

Bamba is expected to complete his medical in the coming days before officially joining the Magpies on a long-term deal.

The reported €41 million transfer fee underlines Newcastle's confidence in the midfielder's long-term potential.

Breakthrough season at Monaco

Bamba enjoyed a breakthrough campaign during the 2025/26 season, making 25 appearances for Monaco in all competitions.

The defensive midfielder impressed with his performances in Ligue 1, attracting interest from several clubs before Newcastle moved to secure his signature.

His development has made him one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in French football.

Competition for Sean Steur

Bamba's arrival will increase competition in Newcastle's midfield following the recent signing of Sean Steur from Ajax.

The Dutch teenager joined the Magpies earlier this summer in a deal reportedly worth €27 million, with both youngsters expected to compete for regular first-team opportunities.

Newcastle continue to invest heavily in young talent as part of their long-term recruitment strategy.

Tonali sale funds rebuild

The Magpies have been able to spend significantly after the sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur for a reported €115 million.

Part of that transfer income has already been invested in winger Bazoumana Touré, with Bamba now set to become another major addition before the new campaign.

Newcastle's midfield rebuild appears well underway following Tonali's departure.
