Crystal Palace are reportedly ready to demand around £100 million for Adam Wharton as Liverpool cool their interest in signing the England midfielder.

The Eagles had previously valued Wharton at more than £70 million, but major midfield transfers elsewhere in the Premier League have changed their position. According to Football Insider, Palace now believe the 22-year-old should command a fee similar to other leading midfielders moving for nine-figure sums.

Liverpool have tracked Wharton for more than a year, but their interest has reportedly cooled and a midfield move is no longer considered an immediate priority.

Crystal Palace increase Adam Wharton transfer price

Palace are in a strong negotiating position and remain hopeful of keeping Wharton at Selhurst Park.

The midfielder has developed into a crucial player since arriving from Blackburn Rovers in 2024. His importance has grown further after playing a major role in Palace’s FA Cup and Conference League success.

Earlier in the year, Palace were reportedly prepared to consider offers above £70 million. That position has now changed following several expensive midfield deals.

Elliot Anderson’s reported £116 million move to Manchester City and Sandro Tonali’s expected £100 million transfer to Tottenham have provided Palace with new reference points when assessing Wharton’s value.

Football Insider’s transfer correspondent explained that Palace see little reason to accept significantly less for one of their most important players.

Wharton’s contract situation also strengthens Palace’s position. The club do not need to sell and can use a £100 million valuation to discourage interested teams from making a move this summer.

Liverpool cool Adam Wharton transfer interest

Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Wharton and previously had scouts monitoring his performances.

However, the Premier League club are now said to have cooled their interest. According to Football Insider, Andoni Iraola does not currently view Wharton as a priority signing.

That decision could significantly improve Palace's chances of keeping the midfielder.

Other potential destinations also appear less likely. Tottenham have strengthened their midfield, Manchester City have invested heavily in Anderson and Manchester United are reportedly considering other targets.

Real Madrid have previously been linked with Wharton, but there is currently no indication of a formal move.

Key Points

  • Crystal Palace are reportedly ready to demand around £100m for Adam Wharton.
  • The Eagles previously valued the England midfielder at more than £70m.
  • Liverpool have cooled their long-term interest and do not currently consider Wharton a priority.
  • Palace are using major Premier League midfield transfers to strengthen their valuation.
  • The Eagles are increasingly confident Wharton will remain at Selhurst Park this summer.

What’s next?

Palace can now wait to see whether any club is prepared to test their new valuation before the transfer window closes.

Liverpool's decision to cool their interest removes one of Wharton's most persistent suitors, while other Premier League clubs have already committed major funds to alternative midfield targets.

Unless a club makes an exceptional offer, Palace appear increasingly well placed to keep one of their most valuable players.
