AC Milan have reportedly revived their interest in Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari as they begin planning for life after Luka Modric.

Modric remains an important player under Ruben Amorim, but at 41 years old, there is an awareness at Milan that this could be the Croatian’s final season.

That has prompted the Serie A giants to start assessing midfield options ahead of next summer, with Ayari emerging as a serious candidate.

Milan return for long-term target Ayari

According to Tuttosport, Milan scouts and executives are already monitoring potential replacements for Modric, and their interest in Ayari is making a “strong comeback”.

The 22-year-old is not a new name on their radar.

Milan have followed the Sweden international for around two years, with former head of scouting Geoffrey Moncada identifying him as a player worth monitoring in 2025.

The Italian club ultimately pursued other targets, but Ayari has continued developing at Brighton.

He made 32 appearances across all competitions last season before representing Sweden at the World Cup, further strengthening his reputation.

One of the main attractions for Milan is Ayari’s versatility. He can operate in several midfield positions for both Brighton and Sweden, giving Amorim different tactical options.

Brighton value midfielder above €40m

Any potential transfer would come at a significant price.

Tuttosport reports Brighton currently value Ayari at more than €40m, which could represent a considerable investment for Milan.

His contract situation could become important, though.

Ayari’s current Brighton deal expires in 2027, although the Seagulls have an option to extend it for another season. If the midfielder does not agree fresh terms, next summer could become an important moment for Brighton to consider his future.

Milan would also face competition.

Roma showed interest during the summer, while several other European clubs are reportedly monitoring Ayari’s progress.

For now, Milan are watching closely rather than making an immediate move, but their long-standing interest has returned as preparations for the post-Modric era begin.

Key Points

  • AC Milan have revived their interest in Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari.
  • Milan view the 22-year-old as a potential option to replace Luka Modric.
  • Brighton reportedly value the Sweden international at more than €40m.
  • Ayari’s current contract runs until 2027, with Brighton holding a further one-year option.
  • Roma and other European clubs are also monitoring the midfielder.

What’s Next?

Milan are still at the planning and scouting stage, meaning there is no suggestion yet of negotiations with Brighton.

Much could depend on Modric’s decision over his future and Ayari’s contract situation on the south coast.

If Ayari does not agree a new long-term deal, Brighton could face a decision next summer despite holding their extension option. However, their reported €40m-plus valuation makes clear that Milan should not expect a cheap opportunity.

Ayari’s performances this season will therefore be crucial. Continued development at Brighton could strengthen Milan’s interest, but it could also attract further competition and push his valuation even higher.
