Zubimendi Arsenal transfer 2025 talks have advanced significantly, with the Real Sociedad midfielder verbally agreeing to join the Gunners. Less than a year after rejecting Liverpool, Zubimendi now looks set to land in north London as Mikel Arteta prepares to strengthen his squad.

Zubimendi Rejects Liverpool, Chooses Arsenal

Martin Zubimendi was top of Arne Slot’s shortlist last summer, with Liverpool preparing to meet his £51m release clause after Spain’s Euro 2024 win. However, the midfielder opted to stay at Real Sociedad.

“It was an uncomfortable time for me, but I weighed the pros and cons and concluded that the best option was to stay.”
— Martin Zubimendi

Despite that loyalty in 2024, Fabrizio Romano now reports that Zubimendi has verbally agreed to join Arsenal. The Gunners are expected to activate his release clause shortly. Journalist Ben Jacobs added that Arsenal remain cautious given the player’s prior U-turn on a Premier League move.

Arsenal Secure Second Real Sociedad Star

Zubimendi would be Arsenal's second signing from the La Liga club in back-to-back summers, following Mikel Merino's arrival in 2024. The Gunners view him as a long-term replacement for Thomas Partey, who is expected to depart.

Arsenal have already fallen behind Premier League champions Liverpool this season, and Arteta is eager to reshape the midfield ahead of 2025/26.

I haven't seen anything from him but it's good that they're doing business this early.
