Yoane Wissa has left Brentford’s pre-season training camp amid growing transfer interest, after the club turned down a £25million bid from Newcastle United.

Standard Sport reports that the 29-year-old is currently holding talks with director of football Phil Giles, with Tottenham and Nottingham Forest also keen on the Congo international. Brentford have set a £50m asking price to ward off suitors.

Why Brentford Rejected Newcastle’s £25m Offer

Wissa’s importance to Brentford grew significantly last season, with the striker scoring 19 goals in the Premier League and finishing as the club’s top scorer. Following the £65m sale of Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, Brentford are wary of losing both of their star forwards in the same window.

Newcastle are expected to return with another bid after missing out on Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro.

Contract Situation & Player Future

Wissa has one year remaining on his current contract, with an option for an additional year. Brentford recently attempted to begin talks on a new deal, but their efforts were rebuffed.

Now, with clubs circling and Wissa unsettled, a departure cannot be ruled out.

Analyst Verdict

Wissa brings energy, direct running and proven Premier League output. For Newcastle, he fits the profile of a transitional, counter-attacking forward Eddie Howe likes — and with Alexander Isak’s fitness concerns, Wissa offers a high-level rotational option.
