Liverpool have been handed a potential edge in the race for RB Leipzig attacker Yan Diomande, after the player openly admitted his desire to play at Anfield.
The 19-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting young attacking talents and is now firmly on the radar of several elite clubs, including Bayern Munich, who are described by Bild as dreaming of bringing him to Munich.
Europe’s elite tracking Leipzig teenager
Interest in Diomande has been building for months. Back in November, SportBild reported that Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea were all monitoring his progress.
More recently, Africa Foot claimed Manchester United had tabled a €90m bid, while also linking Tottenham Hotspur to the race. Those figures were viewed with scepticism, but they underline the growing attention surrounding the player.
According to Bild, Bayern now see Diomande as a dream target but are fully aware they face serious competition from Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
“I want to play for Liverpool”
Liverpool’s advantage may lie with the player himself. During a recent TikTok live stream, Diomande was asked directly about his dream club — and his response was unambiguous.
“I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a huge Liverpool fan,” he said.
“My dad dreams of seeing me play at Anfield.”
Those comments have been picked up by Bild and are likely to resonate strongly at Anfield, particularly given Liverpool’s recent success in convincing top young talents to choose Merseyside over Bayern Munich.
Form, contract and transfer reality
Diomande has enjoyed an outstanding season in Germany, registering seven goals and four assists in 16 appearances for Leipzig. His form earned him a senior debut for Ivory Coast at AFCON, though he is now returning to club duty following the nation’s elimination by Egypt.
The forward remains under contract with Leipzig until 2030, meaning any deal would require a significant financial commitment. Leipzig are under no immediate pressure to sell, but interest at this level rarely fades.
Familiar Liverpool–Bayern battle brewing
For Bayern Munich, the situation carries uncomfortable echoes of last summer, when their long pursuit of Florian Wirtz ultimately ended with the player choosing Liverpool instead.
Should Diomande’s admiration for the Reds translate into formal talks, Liverpool could once again find themselves outmanoeuvring the Bundesliga champions for a prized attacking talent.

What’s next
Liverpool are yet to make a formal move, but with Diomande’s stance now public and Bayern circling, the coming months could prove decisive. Much will depend on Leipzig’s valuation and whether the Reds decide to act early to avoid a full-scale bidding war.
