Wolves news continues to paint a bleak picture after their 3-2 defeat to Everton at Molineux left them bottom of the Premier League table, pointless and winless heading into the international break.

Vítor Pereira’s men have now lost all three opening fixtures, but winger Rodrigo Gomes struck a defiant tone when reflecting on the defeat.

“I think we need to take heart and belief because we were fighting until the end,” Gomes told reporters. “Unfortunately, we didn’t achieve the win or the draw, but we need to work. We need to correct some things and some mistakes we did in this game to increase our level. We know we can do that.”

Substitutes Offering a Spark

Gomes came off the bench to score Wolves’ second goal against Everton, and he believes impact players have been a rare bright spot in an otherwise disappointing start.

“I think we (the substitutes) did a good impact. I was able to score a goal, but I think in every match this season, the subs have come on and changed the game. In the last game, (Jorgen Strand) Larsen came from the bench for two goals. This is the spirit we need to have if we want to help the team.”

Fighting Spirit Still Intact

Despite three defeats, Gomes insists Wolves’ mentality cannot be questioned.

“This is Wolves. We know our quality, we know we have the capacity to win games, to fight to stay in the Premier League. But we also need to correct some mistakes we did, and I think if we do that, we increase our level and we are going to start winning games.”

Three defeats from three fixtures underline the size of the challenge ahead for Pereira, whose side remain bottom of the table.

Analyst Verdict

FootballPlace analyst John William says Wolves’ plight is already becoming a test of confidence:

“Rodrigo Gomes is right to highlight positives, but the numbers don’t lie — Wolves are bottom with zero points. Pereira’s side need to turn resilience into results quickly or risk being cut adrift before autumn.”

He adds:

“The international break gives Wolves time to regroup. But unless defensive errors are fixed, Gomes’ fighting spirit won’t be enough to save them. The Premier League is unforgiving — and this start already feels dangerous.”

Key Insights

  • Wolves have lost all three Premier League games this season.
  • Rodrigo Gomes says substitutes have made a strong impact.
  • Jorgen Strand Larsen scored twice from the bench earlier this season.
  • Gomes insists Wolves can “increase our level” by correcting mistakes.

What’s Next for Wolves?

After the international break, Wolves face a tough run of fixtures as they seek to climb off the bottom. With Pereira still searching for his first points, defensive organisation and composure will be key.

For Gomes, his goal against Everton showed he can make a difference — but Wolves need more than spirit if they are to stay in the Premier League this season.

👉 What’s next for Wolves’ forgotten confidence — can Pereira finally turn spirit into wins after the break?
