Wolverhampton Wanderers have been warned they must pay €30 million if they want to sign Christos Mandas from Lazio this summer.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper, who impressed in Serie A last season, is attracting renewed attention from Wolves — a year after their original bid was rejected.
Lazio Not Willing to Sell Cheap
According to Il Messaggero, Lazio rejected a €12m structured offer last summer and now believe Mandas is worth double. That initial proposal included a €2m loan fee and a €10m obligation to buy, which the Italian club turned down.
This summer, they’re taking a firmer stance:
“If Wolves return with a €30m bid, Christos will be sold immediately,” says a source close to Lazio’s board. — Il Messaggero
Mandas joined Lazio for just €750k from OFI Crete in 2023, making his current valuation a potential 40x return — something Lazio are keen to capitalise on.
Mandas Open to Premier League Switch
Mandas himself addressed the rumours recently, admitting his interest in the Premier League and confirming last year’s Wolves bid:
“Last year, Wolverhampton contacted Lazio. The Premier League interests me, but I will not move just for the sake of it.” — Christos Mandas
Why Wolves Want Mandas
With José Sá’s future uncertain and Matija Sarkic sold, Wolves are prioritising a long-term first-choice goalkeeper. Mandas fits the profile: commanding, comfortable in possession, and tactically mature beyond his years.
Stat (2024/25 Serie A) | Christos Mandas |
---|---|
Appearances | 21 |
Clean Sheets | 9 |
Saves Per Game | 3.6 |
Pass Accuracy | 82.1% |
Save Percentage | 74% |
Mandas’ numbers speak for themselves. His save percentage and composure with the ball suggest he could adapt well to the Premier League’s intensity.
Analyst Verdict
Wolves’ interest makes sense — but €30m is a steep fee. Lazio know they’re sitting on a top talent and won’t settle for less. Unless Wolves strike fast, his price may climb further as suitors circle.
What’s Next?
Wolves must decide whether to meet Lazio’s valuation or pursue alternatives. With pre-season approaching, the clock is ticking on their goalkeeping rebuild.
