Leeds open to big summer offer for Wilfried Gnonto

Wilfried Gnonto could be allowed to leave Leeds United this summer if a significant offer arrives, according to sources close to the situation.

The 22-year-old winger has struggled for regular minutes in recent months, and the club hierarchy are understood to be open to considering a “big” proposal at the end of the season. Leeds’ tactical shift to a 3-5-2 system under Daniel Farke has reduced the need for traditional wide players, limiting Gnonto’s role further.

He has not started a Premier League match since 29 November 2025 and has played just 40 minutes of league football since the beginning of 2026.

Gnonto’s time at Elland Road has been turbulent. Since joining from FC Zürich in 2022, he has experienced relegation, transfer speculation and periods on the fringes of the squad. He even briefly refused to play in August 2023 amid efforts to secure a move after Leeds’ drop to the Championship.

Interest from Saudi Arabia has surfaced in multiple windows, and former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown previously indicated the club were open to a January departure. However, Leeds ultimately blocked an exit after allowing Jack Harrison to join Fiorentina.

Having followed Leeds’ recent tactical development, the success of Brenden Aaronson and Noah Okafor in advanced roles has further squeezed opportunities for Gnonto. Farke may now look to streamline his winger options heading into the 2026/27 campaign.

However, it remains too early to suggest a transfer is imminent. Leeds would likely demand a substantial fee to part ways with a 22-year-old who still carries resale value.

The summer window is likely to bring clarity. Gnonto’s representatives are expected to assess interest once the season concludes, particularly if his role remains peripheral.

Leeds, meanwhile, are also planning reinforcements in goal. Reports indicate Farke wants a new first-choice goalkeeper despite Lucas Perri’s recent FA Cup heroics, suggesting the club are preparing for targeted upgrades rather than wholesale change.
