Earlier this season, West Ham United were linked with a potential move for Massimiliano Allegri as their new manager, with some reports suggesting he was a candidate to replace Julen Lopetegui. However, recent developments have shed light on why talks between the Hammers and Allegri never materialized.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Allegri, the former Juventus boss, is seeking a role at a "top European club" and views West Ham as a step below that level at this point in time. This ambition to manage a higher-profile team is believed to have been a key reason for the breakdown in discussions with the Premier League side.
Allegri’s decision to reject offers from both AS Roma and Al-Ahli aligns with his desire to join a top European club, and he is now increasingly likely to become AC Milan’s next manager.
After parting ways with Lopetegui, West Ham appointed Graham Potter, and under his leadership, the team has won three of their last eight Premier League games. While Allegri would have brought a wealth of experience and silverware to the Hammers, including his successful stints with Juventus and Milan, the opportunity for a potential move has now passed.
