West Ham United are considering a late loan exit for goalkeeper Mads Hermansen after renewed interest from Championship clubs, with Leicester City among those exploring a move ahead of deadline day.
The 25-year-old has been pushing for regular football in a World Cup year, but West Ham are increasingly reluctant to sanction his departure unless a replacement goalkeeper is secured.
Leicester among Championship clubs monitoring situation
Football Place understand Leicester — Hermansen’s former club — are one of several Championship sides tracking the Denmark international’s availability. West Ham have actively explored loan options throughout January, believing the goalkeeper needs minutes after slipping down the pecking order.
However, the Hammers are now hesitant to allow Hermansen to leave without first strengthening their goalkeeping department.
West Ham cautious without replacement lined up
Under Nuno Espirito Santo, West Ham have been searching for competition for Alphonse Areola.
Early in the window, the club opened talks for Bento of Al Nassr and have also maintained interest in Chelsea back-up Filip Jorgensen. No deal has yet been finalised, leaving Hermansen’s future unresolved.
Fall from No1 to fringe role
Hermansen joined West Ham United in an £18m move last summer, signed by former manager Graham Potter, who also brought goalkeeping coach Casper Ankergren to the club.
He began the season as first choice but was dropped after a run of error-strewn performances. Following Potter’s departure in September — and Ankergren’s subsequent exit — Hermansen has failed to re-establish himself under Nuno, starting just five matches across all competitions.
With the World Cup approaching, the goalkeeper is keen to play regularly and is understood to be open to a Championship return if it guarantees minutes.
Busy January at the London Stadium
West Ham have been active in reshaping their squad this month. New arrivals include ValentÃn Castellanos, Pablo Felipe, Adama Traoré and Keiber Lamadrid.
Departures have also been sanctioned, with Niclas Füllkrug, Luis Guilherme, Guido RodrÃguez and Andy Irving all leaving in January.
What Happens Next?
Unless West Ham secure a replacement in the coming hours, Hermansen may be forced to stay put — despite Championship interest — with any move pushed back to the summer.
Should West Ham let Hermansen leave to protect his World Cup hopes — or keep him as depth?
