West Ham United saw three separate bids rejected for Real Betis defender Natan before turning to Axel Disasi on loan during the closing stages of the January transfer window.
According to Spanish outlet ABC, the Premier League club made an aggressive late push for the Brazilian centre-back, tabling multiple offers worth around €40million in total. However, none of the proposed structures were enough to persuade Betis to sanction a mid-season sale.
With time running out and Betis standing firm, West Ham were ultimately forced to pursue an alternative solution in defence.
West Ham bids rejected as Betis refuse to sell Natan
Natan has emerged as a key figure for Betis this season, and the club made it clear they had no intention of weakening at the back during the second half of the campaign.
West Ham’s first approach included an upfront payment of £2.6m (€3m) alongside a compulsory purchase clause worth £28.1m (€33m), triggered on 1 July 2026. Betis rejected the proposal outright.
The Hammers then returned with a revised offer, increasing the initial payment to £4.3m (€5m) and proposing a further £26.4m (€31m) payable next summer. That structure was also turned down.
A third and final bid followed, offering £5.1m (€6m) immediately, £23.8m (€28m) in July, plus 15 per cent of a future sale. Once again, Betis refused.
Betis stance rooted in long-term value
From Betis’ perspective, Natan remains a high-upside asset. The Brazilian joined on loan from Napoli in the summer of 2024 before Betis exercised their option to buy him for £7.7m (€9m) ahead of the 2024–25 season.
Since then, his market value has risen sharply. Betis had already rejected bids in excess of £21.3m (€25m) last summer and believe his performances across the remainder of this season could push his valuation higher still.
There is also a financial factor at play. Betis only control 90 per cent of Natan’s economic rights, increasing the threshold required for any sale to make sense for the club.
Disasi loan ends West Ham pursuit
After repeated refusals, West Ham pivoted away from Natan and completed a loan deal for Axel Disasi from Chelsea to bolster their defensive options.
The move brought an end to their pursuit of the Betis centre-back for this window, though the interest underlined West Ham’s willingness to invest heavily in defence had a deal been possible.
What’s next
Betis are now focused on backing Natan through the remainder of the season, confident his value can continue to rise. West Ham, meanwhile, will reassess their centre-back plans in the summer, when Betis’ stance — and Natan’s availability — may be revisited under different conditions.
