West Ham United are considering a permanent move for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi this summer, but any deal will depend heavily on the club securing Premier League survival.
The French centre back joined the Hammers on loan during the January transfer window in a deal worth around £1.8m after falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge. Since arriving in east London, Disasi has quickly established himself in the side and impressed the club’s coaching staff.
However, West Ham’s ability to pursue a full transfer will hinge on both their league status and the financial terms Chelsea are prepared to accept.
West Ham considering Axel Disasi permanent transfer
West Ham would be open to negotiating a permanent deal for Disasi if they remain in the Premier League next season. Internally, the club are believed to be satisfied with the defender’s performances since arriving on loan.
Disasi had struggled for opportunities at Chelsea and was previously part of the group of players who were not regularly involved in first team plans earlier in the campaign.
West Ham view the situation as a potential opportunity in the summer transfer market, particularly if Chelsea are prepared to lower their asking price.
Chelsea paid approximately £38.6m to sign the defender from Monaco in 2023. However, West Ham believe his market value has dropped after a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge.
Price reduction likely key to any West Ham deal
Despite their interest, West Ham would only consider a transfer if the fee was significantly lower than Chelsea’s original investment.
A permanent move would also depend on the club remaining in the Premier League, as relegation would dramatically reduce their financial flexibility.
Currently, West Ham sit 18th in the league table with nine matches remaining. However, they are level on points with Nottingham Forest and only one point behind Tottenham, keeping survival hopes very much alive.
Having followed West Ham’s recent fixtures closely, the team’s form has improved significantly in recent weeks.
They have won seven of their last 11 matches across all competitions, including a penalty shootout victory over Brentford earlier this week which secured their first FA Cup quarter final appearance since 2016.
Axel Disasi enjoying new start at West Ham
The defender himself has spoken positively about his early experience with the Hammers since arriving from Chelsea.
“So far, my experience at West Ham is very nice. At the moment, when I’m on the pitch, the feeling is great.” — Axel Disasi
He also admitted his situation had been different during his time at Chelsea earlier in the season.
“Before, it was not the case for me at Chelsea. But I’m just enjoying playing again.” — Axel Disasi
The 28 year old defender celebrated his birthday earlier this week and appears to be rediscovering confidence with regular playing time.
