West Ham make Deadline Day loan move for Roma defender Salah-Eddine

West Ham United have made a Deadline Day move for AS Roma defender Anass Salah-Eddine as Nuno Espirito Santo looks to strengthen his squad following El Hadji Malick Diouf's departure.

According to The Athletic, the Hammers have submitted a loan proposal for the 24-year-old Morocco international.

Salah-Eddine returned to Roma after spending last season on loan at PSV and could now continue his career in the Championship, with West Ham identifying him as a potential replacement for Diouf.

West Ham's interest comes after a significant change on the left side of their squad.

Diouf completed a move to Brentford last week for around €40million, leaving the relegated Hammers needing another option at wing-back.

Salah-Eddine has now emerged as a late solution.

The Athletic reports that West Ham approached Roma on Tuesday with a proposal to take the former FC Twente player on loan.

There is no indication yet that Roma have accepted the offer, meaning negotiations will have to progress quickly if the deal is to be completed before the transfer deadline.

Salah-Eddine's future has already generated considerable speculation this summer.

The defender spent last season on loan at PSV, and the Dutch champions were reportedly interested in extending his stay in Eindhoven. However, no agreement was reached.

Olympiacos subsequently emerged as another potential destination.

Roma were reportedly able to reach an agreement with the Greek club, but Salah-Eddine was not interested in completing the move.

West Ham could now provide him with an alternative opportunity in English football.

Salah-Eddine joined Roma from FC Twente around 18 months ago in a deal worth more than €8m and remains contracted to the Italian club until the summer of 2028.

His ability to operate on the left could make him a useful addition for West Ham as they attempt to recover from a difficult start to life back in the Championship.

Nuno's side have collected only two points from their opening three league matches, increasing the importance of strengthening the squad during the final hours of the window.

A loan would also allow West Ham to replace Diouf without immediately committing a substantial part of the fee received from Brentford.

West Ham must now wait for Roma's response and potentially reach an agreement with Salah-Eddine over the proposed move.

With the transfer deadline approaching and Diouf already gone, securing another option on the left has become one of the Hammers' final priorities of the summer window.
