Vitor Pereira says his “points then pints” tradition will continue at Nottingham Forest — but only when results justify it.
The Portuguese coach was appointed Forest’s fourth manager of the season on 16 February 2026, tasked with steering the club away from relegation danger. Sitting 17th in the Premier League, just three points above the bottom three with 12 games remaining, Forest have turned to Pereira’s survival credentials.
And while the situation is serious, Pereira insists he will not abandon the personality that made him popular during his previous spell in English football.
Vitor Pereira brings ‘points then pints’ to Forest
During his 11-month tenure at Wolves, Pereira became known for celebrating victories in a local Wetherspoons, coining the phrase “first the points, then the pints.” The tradition even inspired banners and chants from supporters.
Asked whether the ritual would continue at the City Ground, Pereira responded with typical directness.
“This is something about my personality. I'm not an actor, I'm a simple guy, an honest guy, confident and when I feel I deserve the pints — of course!”
Having followed his time at Wolves, the gesture was never about gimmicks. It became symbolic of his connection with supporters during a difficult campaign.
However, it remains to be seen how often such celebrations will occur in Nottingham. Forest’s margin for error is slim.
Relegation rescue experience key to appointment
Pereira arrives four months after being dismissed by Wolves in November. Yet his reputation was shaped by the previous season, when he replaced Gary O’Neil in December 2024 and guided Wolves from 19th place to eventual safety, finishing 16th and 17 points clear of the drop.
Forest hope that experience translates quickly.
He also reunites with owner Evangelos Marinakis, under whom he previously delivered a league and cup double at Olympiacos in 2014/15. Despite Marinakis’ reputation for managerial turnover, Pereira insists mutual trust exists.
“He trusts my work, I trust his personality. I think we need passion too,” he said.
