Viktor Gyokeres Arsenal response to the Wolves setback was emphatic, with the striker calling the 4-1 demolition of Tottenham the “perfect way” to answer questions over the club’s title mentality.

Arsenal were rocked by a 2-2 draw at Wolves earlier in the week, surrendering a two-goal lead at Molineux. Criticism followed, with doubts raised about their ability to sustain a Premier League title charge.

Four days later, Mikel Arteta’s side produced a statement performance in the north London derby.

Viktor Gyokeres Arsenal response silences critics

Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze both struck twice as Arsenal secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Spurs, extending their lead at the top of the table to five points over Manchester City.

“It’s always going to be difficult when you get a result like we had at Wolves, but it’s how you handle that, and how you respond to it, and today we showed that in a good way,” Gyokeres said.

“To get this result and this performance, it was the perfect way to respond. So, it’s a good sign. The thing is, that we have to keep showing it in the next game and the game after that.”

Gyokeres has now reached double figures in the league this season, reinforcing his importance in Arsenal’s attacking structure.

Honest talks before derby turnaround

The derby win followed a squad meeting after the Wolves draw, with players addressing frustrations openly.

Declan Rice had earlier confirmed discussions were “firm”, and Gyokeres highlighted the value of that honesty.

“It’s important sometimes just to say what you feel and to let it all out in the group,” he explained.

“Most of us spoke. When you speak in the group openly like that, you come closer together and it’s very important to do that sometimes. If you’re not honest, I think it’s hard to improve.”

The performance against Tottenham suggested that internal reset had an immediate effect.
