Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is finally ready to tap into his Old Trafford contacts after a difficult debut spell at the King Power. The Foxes’ relegation to the Championship has forced a rethink, and sources say the former United striker is leading the chase to bring 18‑year‑old Harry Amass on loan from Manchester United next season.
Van Nistelrooy’s appointment in October was preceded by two memorable wins over Leicester as United interim manager, but results since then have been sparse. Following confirmation of their drop into the second tier after a loss to Liverpool, the Dutchman is now turning his focus to rebuilding a squad capable of bouncing straight back.
According to reports from Give Me Sport, Leicester have made Amass their top left wing‑back target. United’s ‘influential figures’ expect Championship sides to queue up for the youngster’s signature, but Van Nistelrooy wants to beat the competition and bolster his options down the flank. Having experimented with Victor Kristiansen in that role, the Foxes believe Amass’s pace and direct style—described as “powerful” going forward—will fit Van Nistelrooy’s system perfectly.
Ruben Amorim, who handed Amass his Premier League debut for United against Newcastle United, already waxed lyrical about the teenager’s temperament:
“I think he did quite well. He caught a player that is really fast, he debuted in maybe one of the hardest stadiums with one team that is in a good moment.”
— Ruben Amorim
Amorim went on to stress the need to nurture young talent at the top level:
“He needs to continue and we need to help all these young kids to perform at a higher level.”
— Ruben Amorim
With Leicester’s squad overhaul already under way, settling Amass on loan could provide the perfect blend of youthful energy and attacking threat required to mount an immediate promotion push.
Do you think Harry Amass can become the star Leicester need, and will Van Nistelrooy’s gamble on youth secure both his future and a fast return to the Premier League?
