Tyrell Malacia pushes for late Manchester United exit

Tyrell Malacia is pushing for a late January exit from Manchester United, with a move away from Old Trafford increasingly expected as the defender looks to revive his season with regular football.

According to Voetbal International, the Dutch left-back is actively seeking a solution in the final days of the transfer window after finding himself firmly on the fringes under the club’s new management.

Malacia had opportunities to leave Manchester United during the summer, but no deal was finalised. At one point, reports from Turkey claimed United had agreed a loan move with Eyüpspor, only for the defender to reject the switch, preferring to stay and fight for his place.

That decision has not paid off.

Under former manager Ruben Amorim, Malacia was barely used, receiving just two minutes of league action in the Boxing Day win over Newcastle United. His situation has not improved since the managerial change.

Since Michael Carrick took charge, Malacia has remained on the sidelines, acting as an unused substitute in both matches overseen by the new head coach.

Carrick’s preference for Luke Shaw, combined with increased competition at left-back, has left Malacia with little realistic pathway to minutes during the second half of the season.

At 26, the defender is now prioritising game time over patience.

Voetbal International report that Malacia has attracted interest from clubs in Italy, Turkey and Major League Soccer. While the report does not name specific European sides, it does state that one unnamed MLS club has already made a concrete approach.

A move to Italy or Turkey is described as “likely to happen in the final days of the transfer window” if an agreement can be reached quickly. The Dutchman is understood to be open to all options that guarantee regular football.

From Manchester United’s perspective, Malacia is no longer central to short-term plans, but any move would still need to make sense financially and structurally.

The club are not actively pushing him out, yet the lack of involvement suggests they would not stand in the way of a sensible deal, particularly if it frees up squad space.

However, it remains too early to draw firm conclusions. With time running short, logistics rather than intent may decide whether Malacia leaves now or waits until the summer.

Malacia’s camp are expected to intensify talks over the coming days, with clarity needed before the deadline. If a move to Italy or Turkey materialises quickly, an exit looks probable. Otherwise, MLS could provide a fallback option. Manchester United must now decide whether to facilitate a clean break or keep depth until the summer.
