Tottenham loan players set for De Zerbi chance as Moore, Phillips and Vuskovic return

Tottenham’s summer rebuild is already taking shape, with several loan players set to be assessed by Roberto De Zerbi ahead of a pivotal 2026/27 season.

With Spurs currently battling relegation and facing the possibility of a first drop from the top flight since 1977, planning is underway regardless of which division they find themselves in next term. De Zerbi has confirmed his commitment to the project, signalling that squad decisions will be driven by long-term strategy rather than short-term uncertainty.

Tottenham’s difficult campaign has exposed gaps across the squad, increasing the likelihood that returning loanees will be given opportunities to impress in pre-season.

Based on the last few months of Spurs’ season, depth and consistency have been recurring issues, making internal solutions a logical starting point for De Zerbi as he reshapes the squad.

Three players in particular have stood out during their loan spells and could now play a role in Tottenham’s next phase.

Mikey Moore’s development at Rangers has accelerated significantly in the second half of the season. After an initial adjustment period, the 18-year-old winger has become a regular starter, featuring in eight of the club’s last nine league matches.

Across 42 appearances in all competitions, Moore has contributed six goals and three assists, underlining his growing influence. His performances have come at a time when Tottenham have struggled for attacking consistency, particularly in wide areas.

However, it remains too early to determine whether he is ready for a sustained Premier League role, especially given the step up in intensity.

Ashley Phillips represents a more immediate option, particularly if Tottenham need to rebuild defensively. The 20-year-old centre-back has gained valuable experience in the Championship, making over 80 appearances across loan spells with Stoke City, Plymouth and Blackburn.

His physicality and familiarity with English football’s second tier could prove particularly important if Spurs are relegated. He may also provide cover if key defenders depart during the summer.

Luka Vuskovic’s situation is more complex. Pre-season is expected to be a key period for evaluating loan players, with De Zerbi likely to integrate several into first-team training. Transfer activity will also depend on potential departures, particularly in defence and midfield.
