Sunderland’s high-profile summer signing Noah Sadiki has wasted no time in establishing himself as a key figure in the Black Cats’ midfield. The 20-year-old joined from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise for a fee of €17m plus €3m in add-ons, and despite his age, he has already started all four of Sunderland’s Premier League games this season.

Congo manager Sébastien Desabre, who gave Sadiki his international debut last year, is convinced the youngster has what it takes to become one of the league’s best. Speaking via Africa Foot, Desabre praised the midfielder’s maturity and work ethic: “Noah Sadiki is a very promising player. At 20, he’s already very mature. What’s interesting about him is not only his ability to win the ball back, but also his ability to exploit it. In two or three years, I think he’ll be among the best players in his position in the Premier League.”

For Sunderland, who are fighting to establish themselves in the top flight, Sadiki’s seamless adaptation has been a major positive. He looks set to be a mainstay under the Stadium of Light’s bright lights this season, with his blend of defensive awareness and calmness in possession already winning admirers.

Why Sunderland moved for Sadiki

Sadiki arrived in England with an impressive pedigree from Union SG, where he racked up over 100 senior appearances before the age of 21. Known for his ability to read the game and recycle possession, he was also targeted for his versatility and energy.

At Sunderland, he has shown the same qualities that made him a standout in Belgium: aggressive ball-winning, intelligent positioning, and neat passing in tight spaces. Sunderland’s recruitment team are confident his ceiling is high — and Desabre’s glowing endorsement only strengthens that belief.

“He’s a very hard-working, intelligent player who quickly understands what’s expected of him. Because he knows what he wants and gives himself the means to achieve it.” — Sébastien Desabre, Congo manager

Analyst verdict: Sunderland may have struck gold

FootballPlace analyst John William believes Sadiki’s signing could prove transformative:

“Sadiki fits exactly what Sunderland needed — a young, durable midfielder who can grow into the Premier League. His stats already show balance: solid duel success, interceptions, and tidy distribution. With experience, his decision-making will sharpen, but his foundation is excellent. For €17m, this could look like a bargain in two or three years’ time.”

William added: “What stands out most is his mentality. He has already played over 6,000 minutes of senior football in Belgium before turning 21. That experience makes him mature beyond his years, and Sunderland are reaping the benefits.”

What’s next for Sadiki and Sunderland?

Sunderland face Aston Villa at home next, a stern test of their defensive organisation and Sadiki’s ability to cope with dynamic midfielders. A strong showing would further reinforce his growing reputation.

For now, his immediate task is to help Sunderland secure Premier League safety. But if Desabre’s words are anything to go by, Sadiki is destined for far more than survival football.
