Manchester United remain winless this season after being held to a 1-1 draw at Fulham, leaving Rúben Amorim under growing scrutiny as his record at Old Trafford worsens.

Bruno Fernandes missed a first-half penalty before Rodrigo Muniz’s own goal put United in front. But substitute Emile Smith Rowe equalised for Fulham, leaving United with just one point from their opening two games.

The result means Amorim has now overseen 29 league matches and collected only 28 points, a damning statistic that has intensified questions about his future.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, speaking to Sky Sports"We can do better but we are putting the effort so that is the most important to me. In some moments we did well, especially in the beginning of the game. After the goal we were just thinking about the result. We were ok until the goal and then we were not smart in that moment."

"We have to think about the performance. I know what the feeling is of a player who has to win every match. We missed a penalty, we missed some chances and then we score and we had to defend that goal. We have to focus on our movements and play until the end."

Amorim: “We Can Do Better”

Despite the mounting pressure, Amorim struck a defiant tone in his post-match interview:

“I don’t feel lack of urgency. We missed the pen and some chances. We scored and I felt the team wanted to protect the result. I think we can do better but we are putting in the effort.” — Rúben Amorim, post-match

He acknowledged the players are feeling the weight of expectation:

“They are humans, they know the context, they read everything. They know they need to be better. I am really confident we are going to get many wins.”

A Win Percentage to Forget

Amorim’s Premier League win percentage now stands at 24.1% (7 wins in 29 games) — identical to Neil Warnock’s record (27 wins from 112 matches), a manager twice relegated from the top flight.

The comparison is already being used by critics to illustrate the scale of United’s decline. For a club of their stature, such numbers are far below expectations, especially given the financial backing Amorim has received since arriving from Sporting Lisbon.

Analyst Verdict

FootballPlace analyst John William:
“When your record dips below one point per game, alarm bells ring. Amorim’s system isn’t translating to results — United look fragile, lacking conviction and short of leadership in big moments.”

“Amorim insists he sees progress, but fans aren’t seeing wins. The Neil Warnock comparison is brutal for a manager hired to modernise United. Without a quick turnaround, pressure from above will only intensify.”

Key Insights

  • United draw 1-1 with Fulham, Fernandes missed penalty.
  • Amorim has now managed 29 games, 28 points in the league.
  • Win percentage of 24.1%, matching Neil Warnock’s PL record.
  • Amorim: “I think we can do better but we are putting in the effort.”
  • Fans and critics question whether progress is actually being made.

What’s Next for United?

United’s next fixtures take on huge significance. With the squad underperforming and results slipping, Amorim cannot afford further stumbles. The Old Trafford faithful expect an immediate response, or calls for change will grow louder.

Amorim remains confident, but confidence alone will not save his job if the winless run continues.

Is Rúben Amorim already on borrowed time at Manchester United?

Worst ever manager, stubborn as well. Why would you keep him, why?! For what? That 5 at the back is never going to work.. Don't think I've ever been so low on confidence with Amorim in charge. He continues to play the same formation yet it's been clear from day 1 it's not working. It limits Bruno playing him that deep. The defenders and GK never looks conformable playing that way either. If his management skills are that limited he only can ever use one formation he's never going to be a success in the Premier League. Not to speak about his man management which has been as equally abysmal.
